Cooking with Natural Gas

Enjoy the simplicity of a nutritious home-made stovetop pizza. Stovetop pizzas are a great way to customize fast yet nutritious meals for any night of the week! Plus, cooking with a cast iron skillet can help improve your iron intake – a win for everyone.

Whether it’s melting cheese for nachos or simmering a big pot of chili, the precise control and quick response of a natural gas cooktop can get the food to the table fast and piping hot. That’s why most professional chefs choose natural gas. When it comes to baking, natural gas is also the best choice because it preheats fast and produces a moist heat that helps baked goods come out perfect.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough
  • 2 tsp Canola oil
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup diced green peppers

Ingredients

Step 1

Start by dividing the dough in half. Lightly flour your counter and then roll one piece of the dough into a circle slightly smaller than your 10-to-12-inch skillet.

Step 2

Place the skillet over medium-high heat and add canola oil and heat until simmering.

Step 3

Carefully add pizza dough to your pan. Cook until you see large bubbles forming on top and the underside shows golden spots, about 1-minute.

Step 4

Deflate the bubbles with the corner of your spatula if desired.

Step 5

Flip the crust with your spatula and add 1/2 the sauce, onions, peppers and cheese.

Step 6

Cover and reduce heat to medium and cook for another 4 to 5 minutes.

Step 7

After 4 minutes, peak under the lid to see if the cheese is melted. It is ready once the cheese has melted to your liking.

Step 8

Transfer to a cutting board and enjoy.

Step 9

Repeat process for the second half of the dough.

Additional Notes

For a crispier pizza, run the pizza under the broiler for one to two minutes at the end of cooking until golden brown.
