As part of DTE Energy’s plan to build a stronger grid, our crews are out in the field every day locating and upgrading select pieces of our infrastructure where improvements are necessary. This can range from single pole replacements to neighborhood wide rebuilds.
In Dearborn Heights, at the corner of Van Buren Road and Rockland Street, our crews were busy recently implementing upgrades to the surrounding neighborhood. Specifically, over 80 locations are scheduled to be serviced and upgraded here. Some locations require full pole replacements, while others receive pole top upgrades such as cross arms, connectors, and transformers. This will greatly improve the electrical reliability in the area. Area customers can expect to see a boost in the performance of the grid, especially during extreme weather situations.
Improving our infrastructure is essential for reducing outages and increasing grid resilience. By strategically investing in advanced technologies, we can efficiently meet future energy demands and deliver reliable, uninterrupted service to our customers.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
