At DTE Energy, safety is the top priority for both employees and our customers. We want to ensure you plan your at-home or business digging projects accordingly.

Hitting buried utility lines or pipes may cause property damage, injury, or even death. Call MISS DIG 811 at least three business days before you begin your digging project. The MISS DIG team will come to your property for free and mark all buried lines and pipes with colorful flags. These flags represent various underground utilities, including electric, gas, sewer and drain lines, communication systems, and more.

Put your digging tools down and pick up your pen and notepad! Write down these 4 critical items on your digging project checklist to ensure a safe and smooth project:

  • Contact MISS DIG 811 or go to MissDig.com and submit a request.
  • Wait to dig until all flags have been placed.
  • Hand dig within four feet of flags. Once you have exposed the underground utilities by hand-digging, you can carefully continue to dig using the necessary tools.
  • Respect the flags. Make sure children or neighbors do not remove the flags on your property

Use these helpful tips to keep you and your neighbors safe this digging season!

Remember: MISS DIG 811 is free, it’s safe, and it’s the law.

Happy safe digging!
