DTE has a four-point plan to improve electric reliability for customers, including trimming trees, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding older sections of the grid and accelerating our transition to smart grid technology. As a part of our efforts to strengthen existing infrastructure, crews have been in Dearborn replacing old, damaged underground cables.

Recently, our underground team was working at South Gulley and New York Street, where they disconnected old cables attached to a transformer and replaced them with new ones.

Often, jobs like this occur because cables are damaged by animals. In other cases, cables are damaged by people who did not contact MISS DIG before digging in their yards. Remember to request the MISS DIG service by dialing 811 or visiting missdig811.org. It’s also important that you do not begin your project until the utility flags have been planted and leave the flags in place until your underground work is complete.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability in the short and long term.

Make sure to regularly check the Wayne County community page to learn more about what is going on in your neighborhood. You can also follow DTE on Facebook and Twitter for even more updates and information.
