Spooky season may be behind us but there’s one thing still giving us a fright: tree limbs growing dangerously close to Detroit’s overhead power lines. Overgrown tree branches can get tangled with DTE lines during heavy winds, causing power outages for nearby homes in businesses. Fear not, Brightmoor residents! Our tree trim crews were recently in your neighborhood, near West Outer Drive and Lyndon Street, working to fend off these threats to your reliability. As you can see in the photo above, arborists went up in multiple bucket trucks to trim trees away from overhead infrastructure, safely and efficiently improving your electrical dependability.

In late 2021, DTE made a $90 million investment to accelerate tree trimming efforts across the communities it serves, helping prevent outages during heavy storms.

Highlights include:

  • Accelerating tree trimming work for communities hardest hit by storms last fall
  • Increasing our tree trim workforce by 30%
  • Trimming 5,700 miles of trees near power lines — more than the distance from Detroit to Hawaii — in the last year alone

If trees are creating a safety hazard near your home, please report it to DTE here. We prioritize safety concerns based on the severity of the hazard.
