Across DTE, August was filled with familiar signs of care: employee teams packing food boxes, school supplies being sorted for students, coworkers stepping away from their desks to find meaningful ways to support the communities we serve.
This year’s opportunities showed the many ways DTE employees stepped up. They helped Mimi’s Mission with Amazon donation deliveries in Woodhaven, supported fairgoers with the Carleton Rotary wheelchair and wagon tent at the Monroe County Fair, sorted and packed food at Gleaners, distributed food boxes through United Community Family Services and the Chaldean American Ladies of Charity, organized school supplies for military families and helped the Wave Project operate mobile shower services in Warren.
Teams of employees also created their own moments of impact. More than 70 DTE Customer Service leaders spent part of a dedicated day of service volunteering at four local nonprofit organizations across southeast Michigan. The DTE Safety team volunteered with Food Gatherers, while employees also supported opportunities with Bees in the D, Forgotten Harvest, Cass Community Social Services and several local food banks.
Back-to-school season also gave our employees a chance to help students start the year with confidence. In Saline, volunteers joined the community for the annual Stuff the Bus event, collecting backpacks and school supplies for Saline Area Social Services. Another team of employees helped pack 225 backpacks for an open house in Harper Woods/Eastpointe, making sure students and families had essentials in hand before the first bell rang.
Together, 722 DTE volunteers gave 5,276 hours of service during Month of Caring, creating a collective impact felt across Michigan. The month may put a spotlight on service in August, but these efforts reflect a year-round commitment to showing up for one another and supporting nonprofit partners.
Each packed food box, backpack, donation delivery and supportive interaction helped turn that commitment into action.
As Month of Caring ends, DTE would like to thank every employee, contractor and retiree who gave their time, energy and compassion. Because of their efforts communities are stronger and positive impact continues to grow.
