Did you know trees are responsible for an overwhelming majority of outages during high wind events? The closer tree branches grow next to power lines, the greater the risk of power disruptions. Recently, tree trim worked in the backyard of a Detroit home, near Greydale and Lyndon Streets, removing overgrown tree limbs that hang near an electrical circuit responsible for energizing the city’s Brightmoor Neighborhood, improving reliability for the community.

In late 2021, DTE made a $90 million investment to accelerate tree trimming efforts across the communities it serves, helping prevent outages during heavy storms.

Highlights include:

  • Accelerating tree trimming work for communities hardest hit by storms last fall
  • Increasing our tree trim workforce by 30%
  • Trimming 5,700 miles of trees near power lines — more than the distance from Detroit to Hawaii — in the last year alone

If trees are creating a safety hazard near your home, please report it to DTE here. We prioritize safety concerns based on the severity of the hazard.
