In DTE Energy’s continuous effort to provide reliable energy to our customers, we are updating existing infrastructure across the communities we serve. In Ann Arbor, we have been inspecting the power poles and electric equipment that help deliver power to homes and businesses, replacing or upgrading equipment when needed.
DTE crews were recently working near North Dixboro Road and All Seasons Circle to replace a wooden crossarm with a more durable fiberglass one. Fiberglass is stronger and more resistant to weathering and wear over time. Unlike wood, which can deteriorate and become compromised by environmental factors such as moisture, pests, and temperature fluctuations, fiberglass maintains its integrity much longer and can better withstand extreme weather.
This kind of work helps enhance the reliability of the grid, contributing toward our overarching commitment to reducing outages by 30% and cutting outage time in half by 2029. Upgrading is just one part of our plan to build the grid of the future — it also includes transitioning to a smart grid, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
