Earlier this year, we experienced extreme weather that impacted our customers throughout our service area. We worked quickly and safely to restore power, plus took steps to improve our equipment and make our grid more reliable to withstand events like this in the future. Even after extreme weather occurs, some pieces of equipment may still need to be replaced to ensure the safety of residents.
In Ann Arbor, our crews saw a pole that was leaning and posed a possible hazard to nearby residents. Our crews trimmed trees that surrounded the pole, stripped and removed the old pole, and then utilized a “backyard machine” to drill a hole where a new pole was propped up and installed. Jobs like this are a part of our four-part plan, aimed at hardening our grid and providing equipment upgrades that improve the reliability and safety that our customers deserve.
You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming, maintenance, and infrastructure updates. All of these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability in both the short and long term.
