We’re on a mission to build a smarter, stronger and more resilient power grid, so you have reliable power, no matter what Mother Nature brings to Michigan. That’s why we’re building the grid of the future in Washtenaw County.

Rebuilding significant portions of our grid is one way we’re updating our grid to provide safer, more reliable power for you. Upon completion, these projects are expected to improve reliability by up to 90% for the customers served by the new electrical equipment.

Here’s how we’re working to make your power more reliable.

  • We’re on pace to invest $360 million between 2019 and 2029 to modernize Ann Arbor’s infrastructure. By rebuilding and upgrading the electric equipment that delivers power to customers, we’ll improve reliability and support the city’s sustainability goals.
  • We’re modernizing the electric infrastructure that powers northwest Dexter by installing smart devices on our grid, rebuilding seven miles of electric infrastructure and connecting customers to a new electric substation.
  • We’re installing four miles of new electric equipment – like new poles, power lines and transformers – and trimming trees along Chelsea-Dexter Road between the substation in Chelsea to the city of Dexter. This $14 million project also includes trimming and removing trees near our electric infrastructure.

Rebuilding significant portions of our grid is part of our plan to build the grid of the future, which also includes accelerating our transition to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, and trimming or removing trees
