DTE Energy is working hard to build a stronger grid. This effort brought our crews recently to Lake Orion at the corner of Heights Road and Lapeer Road, where some upgrades have been completed to better prepare for increased demand in the future.

Crews have installed a new power pole to this location, along with the accompanying pole top equipment. As well as installing this new pole, crews have begun tying together the overhead equipment with the underground equipment. This is done to maximize the best of each system and provide the highest possible service to our customers. The performance of the grid in the area will be greatly increased, especially during extreme weather situations.

Modernizing infrastructure is vital for reducing outages and strengthening grid resilience. By investing in advanced equipment, we are ready to meet future energy needs and provide our customers with dependable, consistent service.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
