As part of DTE Energy’s work to build a stronger, more resilient grid of the future, our crews are in the field, daily, identifying electric equipment that may be due for an upgrade.

Recently, DTE crews were working at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Joseph Street in Ann Arbor. Here, they were installing a brand-new power pole at this location, along with the accompanying pole top upgrades such as new cross arms and cutouts. Once the pole is fully installed, the crew will then transfer the primary power from the old pole and place it onto the new pole. This will improve both the reliability and longevity of the grid in the area. By doing these types of upgrades across our service territory, the grid overall will begin to produce better performance, especially during extreme weather situations.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
