As DTE Energy works towards building a stronger grid, our crews patrol and identify locations where equipment upgrades are needed.
In Detroit’s Elijah McCoy neighborhood, specifically at the corner of Lincoln Street and Wilbur Street, crews were hard at work recently upgrading older current equipment.
To accommodate the newer development happening in the area, our crews installed five new power poles, new pole top equipment and transformers, to better prepare for the increased demand of the near future. These upgrades will perform more efficiently and will better support the infrastructure that is currently there. Performance will be improved, especially during extreme weather situations.
Upgrading infrastructure is critical to minimizing outages and improving the grid’s resilience and reliability. By modernizing equipment, DTE is reinforcing the system to meet future energy needs. Our commitment to these upgrades ensures that customers will continue to receive the dependable service they rely on.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
