DTE Energy is laser focused on building a stronger grid. This involves, in part, our front-line crews being in the field every day to locate and identify pieces of our infrastructure that may be due for upgrades.
This effort brought them recently to Livonia, where multiple power poles were being upgraded. Specifically, at the corner of Farmington Road and Glendale Avenue, our crews were finishing an upgrade to a recently installed pole. Along with the new pole, these crews were also installing new switches, cross arms, and connectors to the top of this pole. With these improvements, the grid in this area will be stronger and more reliable for local customers. Once all the poles are installed and fully finished, new wire will be run along the top to round out the upgrades here. Together, this work will create a better performing grid, especially during extreme weather situations.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is one part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
