How DTE Energy engages with Customers on Michigan’s Energy Future

DTE Energy is shaping the future of energy in Michigan, and we’re doing it with your input. As our team prepares to update its long-term plan for meeting future energy needs, we’re committed to listening to our customers and communities.

What exactly is an IRP?

An Integrated Resource Plan is a long-term roadmap that outlines how we’ll meet our customers’ electricity needs over the next 5, 10 and 15 years.  The plan guides how we generate, store and deliver electricity and balances key priorities like reliability, cost and environmental impact. DTE updates this plan at least every five years, and we will file the next one by December 2026.

Listening and Learning in the Community

We know that energy planning can feel complex. That’s why we’re showing up in your neighborhoods, to make it easier for you to understand and for us to hear directly from you.

Over the past several months, DTE has hosted customer resource fairs, open houses and other community events across Southeast Michigan. Our intention is to provide clear, accessible information about the IRP and Michigan’s energy future and to gather customer feedback. Whether it’s a conversation at a table in Highland Park, a presentation in Pontiac or a hands-on display in Westland or Farmington Hills, we’re creating spaces for meaningful dialogue.

Why It Matters

Energy touches every part of our lives, from the lights in our homes to the energy powering our businesses. By participating in the IRP process, you’re helping DTE make informed, inclusive decisions that reflect the needs and values of our communities.
