DTE Energy continues working to rebuild the electric grid in Pontiac. As part of a $31 Million project that is set to fully revamp the grid in Pontiac, our crews are busy working on this plan which includes new poles, new wire, transformers, cross arms, and connectors and major substation work, all scheduled to be completed during this multi-year project. This will greatly increase the strength and reliability of the grid throughout Pontiac.

Recently, at the corner of Elizabeth Lake Road and Tucker Street, our crews installed a new power pole to continue the rebuild along this section. New wire will soon be transferred to the new poles to complete the work here. These new poles and pole top upgrades increase the durability of the infrastructure in the area. This will greatly increase the performance of the grid throughout Pontiac, especially during extreme weather situations.

Upgrading our infrastructure is key to reducing outages and improving grid resilience. Through strategic investments in cutting-edge technology, we are ready to meet future energy demands and ensure a dependable, consistent service for our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

This rebuilding work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
