As DTE Energy continues to build a stronger grid, our crews have been busy identifying and upgrading equipment across our service area.

That initiative has brought our crews to the corner of East Stadium Boulevard and Manchester Road in Ann Arbor. Two brand new steel poles were installed to replace damage, older poles. These steel poles are much stronger than the traditional wood poles, meaning that the performance of the equipment is much better. Not only are these poles made of a more durable material, but they are also taller and buried deeper in the ground to make them as strong as they can be. These upgrades will provide much better reliability for our customers in the area, especially during extreme weather situations.

These infrastructure upgrades are crucial for minimizing outages and strengthening the grid’s resilience and reliability. By upgrading our equipment, DTE is bolstering the current system and positioning it to meet future energy demands. Our dedication to these improvements ensures that customers will continue to receive the reliable service they count on.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
