 Make sure any outdoor gas meter is clear of dirt, debris, vegetation and things like ladders, bikes or tools, etc. 

✔ Make sure any indoor gas meter is free from clutter, boxes, tools or other items that may cause an issue with the equipment 

 Keep all gas appliances clean and free of dust buildup 

 Make sure vents and chimneys are clear of debris. 

 Check that your carbon monoxide (CO) detectors have fresh batteries 

 Know the signs of a gas leak: rotten egg smell, hissing sound, or dead vegetation on the ground 

 Know what to do if you suspect a gas leak: leave immediately and call 911, then call DTE Energy at 800.947.5000. It’s a free service, 24/7.
