✔ Make sure any outdoor gas meter is clear of dirt, debris, vegetation and things like ladders, bikes or tools, etc.
✔ Make sure any indoor gas meter is free from clutter, boxes, tools or other items that may cause an issue with the equipment
✔ Keep all gas appliances clean and free of dust buildup
✔ Make sure vents and chimneys are clear of debris.
✔ Check that your carbon monoxide (CO) detectors have fresh batteries
✔ Know the signs of a gas leak: rotten egg smell, hissing sound, or dead vegetation on the ground
✔ Know what to do if you suspect a gas leak: leave immediately and call 911, then call DTE Energy at 800.947.5000. It’s a free service, 24/7.
