DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
As part of our plan to build a stronger grid, our crews have begun work on a project near downtown Detroit. Specifically, they were busy recently at the corner of West Jefferson Avenue and 21st Street, in the shadow of the historic Ambassador Bridge, to begin executing these upgrades.
This is one part of a bigger project near the river which will see the installation of more than 200 new power poles, new wire, and new pole top upgrades to existing equipment. This work will help increase reliability in the area by improving the quality of the electric infrastructure. With the demand for electric service increasing, our crews are preparing our equipment for increased growth. This will ensure that the performance of our equipment is improved, especially during extreme weather situations.
These infrastructure upgrades are crucial to our goal of minimizing outages and enhancing the resilience and reliability of the grid. By modernizing our equipment, DTE is not only strengthening the current system but also positioning ourselves to meet the increasing electricity demands of the future. We are fully dedicated to these initiatives, ensuring our customers receive the dependable service they deserve.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
