DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to our customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

Our front-line crews have recently been working on updating the infrastructure at the corner of Westfield Avenue and Stoepel Street in Detroit.

After a careful inspection, they determined that the older power lines needed to be replaced, so new wire was brought in and installed. Along with the upgrades to the wiring, the crew was also upgrading the cross arms, replacing the older and weathered wooden arms with new, more durable cross-arms. The old cross-arms are more susceptible to cracking, rotting and breaking over time, whereas the newly installed cross-arms can better withstand weathering from harsh wind, rain, snow and ice.

These updates are just a part of how DTE is building the grid of the future. That plan includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees. These are at the core of our plan as we work to increase reliability for our Detroit customers and across the many communities we serve.
