You may be familiar with the many generations of iPhones, but what about generations of transformers? Just as our cell phone technology evolves over time, so does our electrical equipment. DTE regularly upgrades infrastructure to ensure homes and businesses are powered by the highest caliber of equipment.
These infrastructure upgrades include replacing first-generation transformers with higher voltage second-gen transformers. In the photo above, you can see a side-by-side comparison. On the right stands a first-generation transformer with a primary voltage of 4.8kV. On the left is the upgraded transformer, now with a primary voltage of 13.2kV.
Second generation transformers deliver more electrical power to communities than their predecessors. With more people working from home, higher voltage transformers have the electrical capacity to withstand the expansion of energy use over time, keeping power flowing safely and reliably for years to come.
DTE is dedicated to continuously improving our infrastructure, so you have the power you need now and in the future. Get more information on reliability improvement work happening in your neighborhood at empoweringmichigan.com/reliability-improvements.
