DTE Energy is committed to building a stronger grid. We do that, in part, by identifying key points in our infrastructure that are in need of an upgrade.

This takes us to the corner of Great Lakes Crossing Drive and Baldwin Road in Auburn Hills. Our crew here has been working to upgrade underground equipment for our customers in and around the mall area. The demand for electricity has increased nearby, so we installed new equipment to help meet that need. The new gear consists primarily of cables, made stronger and more durable for more reliable service and to reduce the likelihood of outages. Customers can expect much better performance overall, including during extreme weather situations.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
