As Michigan faces more frequent extreme weather, it’s essential to have a smarter, stronger and resilient electric grid. In Livonia, we’re strengthening our infrastructure to withstand whatever Mother Nature brings our way, so the lights stay on for our customers.
Over the past few years, DTE Energy crews have been working throughout the city to install smart grid devices, inspect and upgrade poles and electric equipment, and trim trees. These efforts, combined with milder weather conditions, led to a 68% improvement in Livonia’s electric reliability between 2023 and 2024.
To build on this progress, over the next two years, DTE plans to invest $14 million throughout Livonia to continue this work. Planned work includes:
- Trimming more than 40 miles of trees in Livonia to prevent them from falling onto electric equipment and causing power outages.
- Replacing approximately 300 poles and inspecting 40 miles of electric infrastructure that helps deliver power to homes and businesses.
- Installing additional smart devices to improve safety, speed restoration and reduce the number of outages.
This work is part of our commitment to reducing the number and length of power outages.
