DTE Energy continues to build a stronger grid, and our crews have been busy in Ann Arbor. That includes the recent service and upgrading of over 130 poles, with some being full pole replacements, transformer upgrades, or pole top improvements.

At the corner of Raymond Street and Arbordale Street, our crews were upgrading a pole with brand new cross arms, which are much more durable and reliable than the wood ones that were there previously. Upgrades like this are happening across this neighborhood and will greatly improve the performance of the local grid. Our customers can expect to specifically notice these improvements during extreme weather situations.

Modernizing infrastructure is essential for reducing outages and enhancing grid resilience. DTE is upgrading equipment to strengthen the energy system, ensuring it meets future demands and delivers consistent, reliable service to customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
