For the second year in a row, DTE has sponsored the University of Michigan’s solar car: a stunning achievement in renewable energy and engineering. This year is also the 37th anniversary of U of M’s solar car team, and the group is more excited than ever to get their car out on the open road.
Julia Glasco, the Team Manager, revealed that the team’s “solar trek” will see the solar car travel from Detroit to Los Angeles, stopping at schools and communities along the way to spread awareness about the program and the power of renewable energy.
“Just as DTE is investing in a greener grid for Michigan, we are investing in proving what solar technology can do on the open road.”
Hosting the solar car team for its sendoff were the MIGreenPower, Renewable Energy Development, Natural Gas Balance, and EYL teams, who gathered in the WCB lobby to conduct giveaways and show attendees how they could benefit from joining their programs.
“MIGreenPower is an easy way to build support Michigan’s clean energy future,” said Justin Walters from the MIGreenPower team. “And it helps students like the ones seen today discover a future in sustainability. From engineering to business, the possibilities are endless through programs like MIGP.”
And students like Glasco know this to be true!
“Our motto is ‘Earn the Victory, Move the World’. Today, we move the world again. And we do it powered by the same conviction that drives DTE’s MIGreenPower program — the belief that a cleaner, more sustainable future is not just possible, it is worth building right now.”
As we wish the solar car team well on its 2,800-mile journey, DTE will continue our own journey of creating more Michigan-made renewable energy to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
