2024 was a year of impact for the DTE Foundation. Last year, the Foundation provided $14.5 million in grant support to 375 nonprofit organizations throughout the state. Missions were supported and needs were met, including food security, wildlife preservation, equitable education opportunities and so much more.
Check out some of the highlights the team accomplished last year:
Tree plantings:
Through a joint initiative with ReLeaf Michigan and the Department of Natural Resources, made possible by the Foundation’s grant support:
- 1,040 trees were planted
- 2,125 seedlings were planted
- 30 communities across the state benefited from the trees
Oakland County Community Resource Day:
The Foundation was out in the community to assist Oakland Country residents with addressing urgent needs at the Oakland County Community Resource Day in October.
The event kicked off with Gleaners’ Mobile Drive-Up Distribution, funded by the DTE Foundation, offering over 35 pounds of supplemental groceries for each participating household. Guests received fresh vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and milk to help nourish their families.
Meanwhile, Michigan Humane was on-site providing low-cost vaccines and microchipping for pets, along with free pet food distribution.
In total:
- Gleaners distributed 550 food boxes, totaling more than 19,000 pounds of groceries
- Michigan Humane distributed more than 12,000 pounds of cat and dog food
- 300 Oakland County community members received a free, fresh meal, courtesy of the DTE Foundation
Habitat for Humanity:
Thanks to grants provided by the Foundation, 14 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Northern Michigan received crucial funding to carry out essential home repairs for the families they serve. These families received support for installing wheelchair ramps, repairing roofs, replacing water heaters, and more.
First-ever Community Empowerment Awards:
In March of 2024, the Foundation proudly launched the Community Empowerment Awards Program, inviting nonprofits across Michigan to submit project proposals for grants aimed at supporting community transformation efforts.
With over 100 nonprofits submitting proposals, it was clear there was a significant need for support. In response, the DTE Foundation more than doubled the original grant amount from $150,000 to over $300,000.
Ultimately, twelve nonprofits across the state received grants to expand their impact within the communities they serve.
