After two back-to-back July heat waves brought temperatures above 90 degrees for several days in a row, communities across Michigan felt the strain of intense summer heat. To help customers stay safe, hydrated and cool, DTE Energy’s community ambassadors hit the road – visiting local neighborhoods to deliver bottled water.

By the end of both heat waves, the team distributed nearly 110,000 bottles of water across Wayne, Macomb, Oakland, Monroe and Livingston counties.

The effort was powered by strong partnerships between DTE and over 50 local organizations with strong ties to the communities they serve, including DABO in Detroit, CARES of Farmington Hills, Hospitality House in Commerce Twp. and many others.

Hot weather can push energy use – and energy bills – higher than expected. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) offers State Emergency Relief (SER) for qualifying customers with a past due bill or disconnect notice. To apply, call 855.275.6424 or visit newmibridges.michigan.gov.

DTE also has a variety of payment assistance and protection programs to help customers stay on track. Visit DTEEnergy.com/help to see what you qualify for and take the next step.
