For students at Trenton Public Schools, the ride to school just got a lot cleaner and their auto shop classrooms got more exciting. The district recently introduced six electric buses, powered by four new fast chargers from DTE Energy in partnership with Dean Transportation, giving kids a quieter, healthier trip to school and a lesson in the future of clean energy.
“The kids have told me they love it because they can actually hear each other speaking on the way to and from school now,” said Doug Mentzer, Superintendent of Trenton Public Schools. “We’ve taken our electric buses a step beyond just getting our students to class safely – we also invite them into our transportation hub, using the electric vehicles as rolling classrooms where they can interact with the technology and infrastructure.”
Mentzer said this investment gives students a head start, pairing innovation with education so they can study, understand and, maybe one day, work in clean energy. DTE was proud to help Trenton Schools make the switch to electric buses. Our team of eFleet Service Advisors has helped dozens of school districts apply for state and federal grants to secure these clean school buses for their students.
