When someone is in need, Family Sheltering and Counseling Services of Monroe County is there to help. From housing to therapy to legal advocacy, FCSSMC has been supporting the community since 1966 and every year, the community has a chance to support them back.

This year, volunteers from DTE Energy helped make FCSSMC’s annual Casino Night fundraiser a success, giving back to the community while having a great time.

“This event presented a fantastic opportunity to support a cause that I deeply believe in,” said Greta Matthews, HR Nuclear Information Analyst. “Plus, it sounded like a lot of fun! Casino Night was a wonderful platform to contribute to a cause that makes a tangible difference in people’s lives.”

Volunteers from DTE helped with check-in and to facilitate raffles at the event, with proceeds going directly to those in need of mental health, domestic violence and sexual assault services – all causes that were important to the volunteers.

“Fundraisers like Casino Night make a major difference when it comes to supporting these worthwhile programs,” said Molly Luempert-Coy, regional manager. “We’re pleased to lend our volunteers to help many charities across the county. It’s always great to support the local charities with their efforts while coming together with our employees and retirees in a fun and team-spirited effort to make a difference.”

The event was packed with fun for attendees while giving people a chance to donate to the vital services FCSSMC has to offer, with a silent auction, dinner and, of course, casino games like roulette, craps, blackjack and poker. But, for the volunteers, it was seeing how the community showed up that made the night special.

“My favorite part of the event was seeing how many people came out to support FCSSMC,” said Matthews. “It was incredibly fulfilling to be a part of something that brings positive change to the community.”

With so many DTE people and operations based in Monroe County, helping local organizations is all the more important.

“DTE employees and retirees live, work and volunteer in Monroe County,” said Luempert-Coy. “We have had an active volunteer group for more than 30 years. Last year, our team volunteered more than 2,000 hours helping the greater community of Monroe. We are giving back to support our hometown, our family and friends and working to demonstrate our care on behalf of DTE.”

The night was a success for FCSSMC and volunteers alike while serving as a reminder of exactly why giving back can be so rewarding.

“Volunteering is not just about giving, it’s also about learning and growing,” said Matthews. “It’s an opportunity to connect with others, develop new skills and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our communities. I encourage everyone to get involved and make a difference in any way they can.”
