DTE crews are rebuilding some of the oldest portions of our grid as a part of us four-point plan to increase reliability for our electrical customers, including trimming trees, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding older sections of the grid and accelerating our transition to a smart grid.
Crews were recently on Riverside and Industrial Streets replacing 20 poles and the attached equipment. Some of the upgrades involved replacing wooden cross arms with more durable fiber glass cross arms, swapping out old copper wires with aluminum wires and installing new conductor on all 20 poles.
These upgrades will help the energy flow more reliably from the Dearborn substation to the community, especially during extreme weather. They will also resolve issues related to a low load and help increase the grid’s capacity, which means we can deliver reliable power to even more homes and businesses.
