Extreme weather caused trees to interfere with a power pole on Detroit’s East side, near Mack Avenue and Seyburn Street. As you can see in the photo below, the impact caused the top of the pole to crack, leaving neighbors nearby without electricity. After restoring power, DTE crews took this opportunity to update the electric grid. Our team replaced the whole pole with a new one, upgraded with new wiring and higher quality crossarms. What are crossarms? They are vital components of a pole that hang parallel for the purpose of holding up electrical wires. The new pole was installed with fiber glass crossarms, a much sturdier material compared to the previous pole’s wooden crossarms. Our team takes pride in building infrastructure that is more resilient to the elements, decreasing the probability of future storms causing power disruptions in the community.
You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short and long term.
