DTE Energy is committed to strengthening our grid, and one key element in achieving this comes by the installation of advanced smart grid technology. At the corner of Pearl Street and Wallace Boulevard in Ypsilanti, our crews recently installed a recloser, an essential device that helps reduce widespread outages caused by localized equipment damage. This would mark a second recloser that has been installed in the area to help strengthen this neighborhood’s service.

By quickly identifying outage locations, reclosers enable faster power restoration for many customers while crews address necessary repairs. This innovation enhances our ability to provide safer, more reliable power, especially during extreme weather situations.

Accelerating the transition to smart grid technology is vital for minimizing outages and bolstering grid resilience. By leveraging this technology, we are prepared to meet future energy needs and provide reliable, uninterrupted service to our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

This smart grid work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, also includes upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
