Westland needs and deserves safe and reliable power; that’s why we’re strengthening our infrastructure, so your lights stay on more reliably no matter what Mother Nature sends our way.

Over the past few years, DTE Energy crews have been working throughout the city to install smart gird devices, inspect and upgrade poles and electric equipment, and trim or remove trees. These efforts, combined with milder weather conditions, led to an 85% improvement in Westland’s electric reliability between 2023 and 2024.

And we’re not done yet.

To build on this progress, over the next two years, DTE plans to invest $40 million throughout Westland to continue improving power reliability.

Over the next two years, you’ll see our crews in your community working hard to create the resilient electric grid Westland deserves:

  • Trimming more than 90 miles of trees to prevent them from falling onto electric equipment and causing power outages.
  • Inspecting and upgrading nearly 100 miles of poles, electrical wires and pole-top equipment . This work includes replacing more than 700 poles and pole-top equipment to strengthen the grid against wind and storms.
  • Installing additional smart devices to improve safety, speed restoration and reduce the number of outages.

This work is part of our commitment to reducing the number and length of power outages. To learn more about the ongoing infrastructure work in Westland, visit the DTE Power Improvements Map.
