As DTE Energy continues to build a stronger grid, crews are continuing their work in West Bloomfield.
Specifically, at the corner of Aldingbrooke Circle Road and Drake Road, our underground crews were working to upgrade the underground equipment in the area. Recently, they installed new underground cabinets as well, preparing to install 1000 feet of brand new upgraded underground cable. These new cabinets will isolate an outage if one were to occur, meaning that instead of the entire local grid going down, this equipment will isolate service where the problem has occurred. The new cables are also much more durable so the chance of any failure of the cable is greatly reduced. These upgrades will increase the performance of the grid overall, especially during extreme weather situations.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
