Grandmont residents in Detroit may have recently noticed orange “workers ahead” signs paired with tree trimming trucks in their neighborhood. This means that our team is making progress on improving reliability in your area. How? Tree limbs interfering with DTE lines are responsible for most power outages. Our team carefully trimmed overhanging branches, near Grandmont Road and Schoolcraft Street. This creates the proper clearance away from overhead power lines, improving reliability for years to come.

All throughout this year, we have increased our tree trimming efforts dramatically across our service territory as part of a $90 million investment to accelerate tree trimming.

Highlights include:

  • Accelerating tree trimming work for communities hardest hit by storms last fall
  • Increasing our tree trim workforce by 30%
  • Trimming 5,700 miles of trees near power lines — more than the distance from Detroit to Hawaii — in the last year alone

If trees are creating a safety hazard near your home, please report it to DTE here. We prioritize safety concerns based on the severity of the hazard.
