Residents of Detroit’s Brightmoor neighborhood may have recently noticed an orange “workers ahead” sign accompanied by tree trim trucks on the corner of Kendall Street and West Outer Drive. Our team safely cleared off limbs that had grown dangerously close to our overhead power lines. This work is vital towards helping prevent power outages for nearby homes and businesses.

In late 2021, DTE made a $90 million investment to accelerate tree trimming efforts across the communities it serves, helping prevent outages during heavy storms.

Highlights include:

  • Accelerating tree trimming work for communities hardest hit by storms last fall
  • Increasing our tree trim workforce by 30%
  • Trimming 5,700 miles of trees near power lines — more than the distance from Detroit to Hawaii — in the last year alone

If trees are creating a safety hazard near your home, please report it to DTE here. We prioritize safety concerns based on the severity of the hazard.
