You may have noticed tree trimmers in your neighborhood near Oregon Avenue and Cottrill Lane. Crews sawed off overgrown branches that may interfere with overhead lines during heavy winds. This work not only reduces the risk of power outages, but also allows DTE to safely upgrade the pole connected to the overhead lines, further improving reliability for the Westland community.
In late 2021, DTE made a $90 million investment to accelerate its tree trimming efforts across the communities it serves to prevent outages during heavy storms. You can read more about that initiative here. Highlights include:
- Accelerating tree trimming work for the communities hardest hit by storms last fall
- Providing additional funds to our ongoing tree trimming program, resulting in an additional 3,500 line miles of trees trimmed. We have already trimmed 20,000 miles more aggressively, which is almost one time around the world!
- Increasing our tree trim workforce by 30%
