The Nature Conservancy is the leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. Since 1951, the group has protected more than 119 million acres of land and thousands of miles of rivers worldwide and operates more than 100 marine conservation projects globally. The Nature Conservancy impacts conservation in 72 countries — protecting habitats from grasslands to coral reefs, from Australia to Alaska to Zambia. They address threats to conservation involving climate change, access to clean water, ocean health, and everything in between. Everything the Nature Conservancy does is rooted in good science and aided by hundreds of staff scientists. They pursue non-confrontational, pragmatic solutions to conservation challenges and partner with indigenous communities, businesses, governments, multilateral institutions, and other non-profits.

The DTE Energy Foundation provided support for the Lake Erie Basin Initiative. This program works to ensure social, economic and ecological benefits through strategic conservation action. Additionally, the Foundation supports the organization’s effort to facilitate and lead collaborative activities to restore and protect Michigan’s coastal habitats and to integrate nature-based storm water management solutions in Detroit.
