Now that winter is on its way out, it’s the perfect time to start spring cleaning. Even though we won’t experience frigid temps for a while, it’s never too early to start making your home more energy efficient for next winter.

Caulk your windows

Caulking is beneficial for both the summer and winter months. Check for any gaps or cracks around your windows and window frames and seal them with caulk. This helps to keep air conditioning or heating in and outdoor air out, saving you money on your energy bills.

Replace your air filter

A clean air filter improves your HVAC system and furnace’s efficiency and ensures better air quality in your home. Remember to replace them every 1-3 months by setting a reminder in your calendar.”

Clean your ceiling fans

Don’t forget to clean your ceiling fans! Dust off the blades and switch the direction to counterclockwise. This helps circulate air and reduces the need for air conditioning and heating.

Adjust your thermostat settings

In the winter or cooler months, set your thermostat a few degrees lower when you‘re not home or at night, and set it a few degrees higher in the warmer months. This ensures that you aren’t wasting energy when you aren’t home or awake. A programmable thermostat can make this even easier and more efficient.

Apply weather stripping to your doors

Weather stripping prevents drafts and keeps your home comfortable without overworking your HVAC system.
