DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to our customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in halfby 2029.

Our front-line crews regularly patrol in the communities we serve, identifying equipment that may be due for replacement or even an upgrade. In Detroit, at the corner of Longfellow Street and Byron Street, a new pole was recently installed, along with new equipment being added to the upgraded pole. A new, more durable cross-arm, and stronger polyurethane connectors will improve the reliability of the service provided, especially during extreme weather conditions. This new pole will also provide direct service to a few newly built houses in the neighborhood.

An upgrade like this might seem simple, but our customers can expect to see a noticeable increase in reliability with this new pole installed. This upgrade is just a part of the work that is going on across our service area.

DTE is building the grid of the future. That plan includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees. These are at the core of our plan as we work to increase reliability for our Detroit customers and across the many communities we serve.
