DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029
Our crews were in Redford recently, performing work that is part of our plan to increase overall reliability. The job included installing more than 35 new steel poles along eastbound Schoolcraft Road, between Inkster Road and Berwyn Avenue.
The installation of these stronger poles will greatly improve the stability of not only the grid in the area but the infrastructure supporting the electric service as well. These poles are significantly taller than their predecessors, which gives them better performance, especially during extreme weather situations. The new steel poles are also much more durable than the previous wooden poles, and along with each new pole, there is also new, upgraded pole top equipment which will help provide a stronger and more stable grid for the area.
The upgrades being done here are all playing a crucial part in increasing reliability in the area. Upgrading or replacing this older infrastructure is key to our plan of building a stronger and more reliable grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
