We’re on a mission to build a smarter, stronger and more resilient power grid, so you have reliable power, no matter what Mother Nature brings to Michigan. That’s why we’re building the grid of the future in Detroit.
Rebuilding significant portions of our grid is one way we’re updating our grid to provide safer, more reliable power for you. Upon completion, these projects are expected to improve reliability by up to 90% for the customers served by the new electrical equipment.
Here’s how we’re working to make your power more reliable.
- We’re rebuilding and upgrading the equipment that delivers power to homes and businesses in East Detroit. This $270 million project involves building a new electric substation, rebuilding more than 100 miles of electric infrastructure and trimming or removing trees.
- We’re investing $263 million to modernize the electric equipment along Edsel Ford Freeway. This project includes creating a new substation, rebuilding nearly 200 miles of electric infrastructure, and trimming or removing trees.
- We’re modernizing the infrastructure powering downtown Detroit and spending more than $1.2 billion to rebuild the electric infrastructure in the city.
Rebuilding significant portions of our grid is part of our plan to build the grid of the future, which also includes accelerating our transition to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, and trimming or removing trees.
