We’re on a mission to build a smarter, stronger and more resilient power grid, so you have reliable power, no matter what Mother Nature brings to Michigan. That’s why we’re building the grid of the future in Oakland County.
Rebuilding significant portions of our grid is one way we’re updating our grid to provide safer, more reliable power for you. Upon completion, these projects are expected to improve reliability by up to 90% for the customers served by the new electrical equipment.
Here’s how we’re working to make your power more reliable.
- We’re expanding an electric substation in Ferndale to provide more reliable power to customers in Ferndale, Hazel Park, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge and some parts of Royal Oak. This $280 million project also includes rebuilding more than 90 miles of electric infrastructure and is expected to improve reliability by up to 90% for the customers served by the upgraded substation and equipment.
- We’re investing $100 million to improve reliability in Pontiac. This work includes modernizing the substations that power Pontiac, rebuilding the system that delivers power to customers and adding smart devices to our grid.
- We’re strengthening our grid by expanding a substation in Madison Heights. This $20 million project will support the area’s growing electric needs and enhance reliability for customers served by the substation.
Rebuilding significant portions of our grid is part of our plan to build the grid of the future, which also includes accelerating our transition to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, and trimming or removing trees.
