DTE Energy is dedicated toward building a stronger grid, and we accomplish this, in part, by identifying locations in the field where our equipment needs an upgrade.

This brought us recently to the intersection of Newburgh Road and Bennett Street in Livonia, where we worked to continue upgrading the entire section of overhead infrastructure between 6 Mile Road and 7 Mile Road along Newburgh Road. Many poles will be installed along with pole top connectors and cross arms to provide more reliable service for our customers in the area. The new equipment is much more durable than those being replaced. These upgrades will greatly improve the performance of the grid in the area overall, especially during extreme weather situations.

Enhancing our infrastructure is crucial for minimizing outages and strengthening grid resilience. Through strategic investments in advanced technologies, we can effectively meet future energy demands and ensure reliable, uninterrupted service for our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
