DTE has different types of crews to work on a variety of reliability projects. For the most part, our overhead crews will work on the above-ground lines that you see running on the side of the road and throughout neighborhoods, while our underground crews focus on the power lines that run beneath our feet. However, they occasionally need to work together to provide reliable energy and service to customers.

That’s what happened this week in Detroit where a new underground cable is set to be installed near McGraw and I-94. The new line will connect the overhead lines with the substation that feeds the underground lines. To make sure this is done safely, some of our line workers went out to prepare for the installation by covering up the primary distribution lines. This enables the underground crew to come in and safely do their portion of the work.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short- and long-term.

Make sure to regularly check the Detroit District 6 community page to learn more about what’s going on in your neighborhood. You can also follow DTE on Facebook and Twitter for even more updates and information.
