DTE Energy’s priority is to build a stronger, more reliable grid. One way we accomplish this is by having our front-line crews in the field every day, looking for equipment that may be due for an upgrade.
In Detroit, at the corner of Dolphin Street and Pilgrim Street in the Brightmoor neighborhood, our crews have installed a brand-new power pole, along with upgraded pole top equipment. Multiple areas in this neighborhood are scheduled to be upgraded with more new poles and pole top equipment. These new additions are going to greatly improve the reliability and performance of the local grid overall, and that performance upgrade will be noticeable for nearby customers during extreme weather situations.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
