DTE Energy is dedicated to building a stronger grid. One of the ways that we work towards that goal is by upgrading our current infrastructure.
At the corner of South Interstate 94 Service Drive and Haggerty Road in Van Buren Township, our crews have begun work on upgrading some key pieces of equipment. Three new steel poles have been installed on both sides of the highway, with new wire being installed soon. These upgrades will provide an increase in reliability for our customers in the area as these steel poles are much more durable than the wooden poles that they’ve replaced. Upgrades like these are happening across our service territory and are working together to provide better electrical service for those in the area. These will result in a better performing grid, especially during extreme weather situations.
DTE is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
