DTE Energy is in the process of building a stronger grid by upgrading our current infrastructure across our service territory. This can range from full rebuilds of a specific neighborhood, or to just upgrading key pieces in a specific location.

This work to boost electric reliability brings us to the corner of County Farm Road and Norton Road in Howell. Here, our crews have upgraded this pole with a brand-new fiberglass cross arm that is much more durable than its wooden counterpart. Over time, the wooden cross arms wear down and reach a place where their integrity is in a more compromised state. Our crews identified this location as reaching that state, so they installed its replacement. Upgrades such as these are improving the grid’s performance, especially during extreme weather situations.

Upgrading our infrastructure is vital for reducing outages and enhancing grid resilience. Strategic investments in advanced technologies enable us to meet future energy demands and deliver reliable, uninterrupted service to our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
