DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

As part of our efforts to build a stronger grid, our crews have begun working on a significant project not far from downtown Detroit. On this day, our crews were busy in historic Corktown, working at the corner of 20th Street and Michigan Avenue. The work, part of a larger conversion project, involves the installation of over 200 new poles, new wiring, and enhancements to existing pole-top equipment. These improvements will significantly boost the area’s reliability by upgrading the infrastructure. With the rising demand for electric service, our crews are preparing our equipment to handle increased loads, ensuring better performance, especially during extreme weather situations.

These infrastructure upgrades are essential to our goal of reducing outages and enhancing the grid’s resilience and reliability. By modernizing our equipment, DTE is fortifying the current system and preparing to meet the growing electricity demands of the future. Our commitment to these projects guarantees that our customers will continue to receive the dependable service they rely on.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
