2022 was an incredible year for our MIGreenPower program! We announced the two largest renewable energy transactions through a utility in the history of the United States. We also surpassed 75,000 residential and 800 business enrollments in the program, nearly doubling the number of enrollments from last year. Here’s a closer look into some of MIGreenPower’s most exciting 2022 milestones:
Making history
In August, we announced with Ford Motor Company the largest renewable energy purchase from a utility in U.S. history. Through MIGreenPower, we’ll add 650 megawatts of new solar energy for Ford, increasing the total amount of installed solar capacity in Michigan by nearly 70%. Ford’s commitment will ensure that by 2025, all their Michigan-made vehicles will be assembled with the equivalent of 100% carbon-free electricity – 10 years earlier than Ford’s global goal.

Making history…again! 
Just this month, we announced with Stellantis the second largest renewable energy purchase from a utility in U.S. history. With Stellantis’ MIGreenPower commitment, we’ll add 400 megawatts of new solar projects in Michigan, enough clean energy to power approximately 130,000 homes annually. The deal includes 70 southeast Michigan Stellantis sites and is a major step towards the company’s goal of achieving net zero emissions globally by 2038.

Surpassing 75,000 residential enrollments 
Our MIGreenPower program is one of the largest voluntary renewable energy programs in the country, and it’s easy to see why. MIGreenPower is convenient, flexible, and currently available at no incremental cost to our residential customers. This year, we crossed the 75,000 residential enrollment level, with approximately 500 new residential customers joining each week. Our subscribers are making a major difference in Michigan’s clean energy future, enabling us to add thousands of megawatts of new clean energy to the grid.
